thank you john for that great post.
very clear cut information.
i have found the same when doing any work
at neutral, or oxidize.
with strong yellow iron at cone 11 i can usually
get a strong yellow color, ochre will always give me
a dirty yellow.
that cheap ochre is a great addition to your clay body.
no need to use rich red iron.
when you fire in reduction it matters not a bit.
it is all variations of brown.
(and again, that is a +- sort of thing.)

best red iron i can find.
