Maybe I should have asked for advice from some of you fi=3D

Hey Folks,=3D0A=3D0A=3DA0Maybe I should have asked for advice from some of =

g one of the first suggestions I gotfor improvement ideas was cover it with=

6"-10" of fire clay, straw, sand, & Portland cement. I've shipped 300lbs. =

of studio clay from Continental for a hundred bucks and my local fire clay =

source cost more now so I couldn't see spending more shipping clay that wou=

ld be difficult to recycle if the kiln were moved. I decided instead to see=

if I could fire without the extra shell with some, but not enough, success=

f the wall is 4.5" hard brick, 1" ceramic fiber blanket ( forgot the heat r=

ating), and 2.5" IFB. After a couple days firing it was obvious the hard br=

ick around the base was giving off too much heat and the IFB was a bit hott=

predicted. Therefore, instead of spending about $500 on materials that wou=

ke it with me when I move. I can probably cover the blanket with the greenh=

it's cold out working around the kiln shouldn't be too uncomfortable. =3D0A=
