missing lead

The one time I was in GB there were ads in the Underground that read: =3D
"Remember men the Navy's rule/ there is not substitute for wool."

Loved it.

Brings to mind the slipware rule...there is no substitute for lead.

They say (according to a friend the most dangerous words in the world) =3D
that bismuth will do what lead did as far as glaze effects to. =3D20

But, according to Internet) bismuth is even pricier than tin!
Perhaps demand might bring the price down...but to build demand, we need =
=3D
to check the "they say" out. =3D20

Once upon a distant time, a cry would have gone up "Write a grant, write =
=3D
a grant..." But that was in days of yore.

Anyway. In my limited research I have found two avenues I think worth =3D
exploring. Tinting the white slip with some yellow stain and/or with =3D
rutile plus titanium. Tiny amounts.
And using a slightly, just slightly cloudy transparent, maybe also =3D
tinted with a tidge of rutile. I have found plain Fe2O3 too =3D
harsh...though I have not tried Fe2O3 plus titanium.

=3DA0 =3DA0 =3DA0 =3DA0 It is important not to think this way in developing=
a glaze=3D
.
=3DA0If we did this with Shino, demanding they look like the original,
nobody would be satisfied.

Can't go wrong with Arbuckle.

In her handout above, Amber Assault takes 4-6 % burnt umber I
have fired it to cone 1. I think it looks better at that temp.
