photos from imac to iphone

I just got an iphone3 (hand me down from my wife) and I'd like to put
some pictures of my work on it. I don't mean pictures I've taken with
the phone. These are pictures I've taken with my camera, which loads
them into iphoto on my computer. But then I have to take them out of
iphoto and crop and straighten them in Photoshop. Then I put them in
folders on my computer. I don't want all of the photos in any folder
onto the phone, just a selection.
It looks to me that the way I have to do this is make a new folder,
put copies of the photo I want (which I guess involves renaming them
so they get copied instead of moved) in that folder, then import that
folder to iphoto. Then I can transfer them to the phone in itunes.
Is that right? Is there an easier way?

Are you using iTunes? I recommend it. You can just drag and drop.
They won't be taken off your computer.

With iPhone plugged in, go to iPhone name in sidebar of iTunes. Then go to =

ast tab, Photos. Select check beside Sync Photos and then use pop up menu t=

change from default iPhoto to Choose Folder...and navigate to your desired=

hoto folder.=3D20

You'll need to create a separate folder for your chosen 'shopped' subset bu=
t=3D
won't need to re-import them back into iPhoto. Though you could create a s=
e=3D
cond iPhoto library and use that. iPhoto Manager is good for organizing and=

witching between libraries or simply hold down the option key as you open i=

If your iPhone 3 is a 3GS and has been updated to iOS 5 you could turn on i=
C=3D
loud and Photostream. But I digress prosteltyzingly.=3D20
