Hey James, had a look see at your work and the two that I enjoyed most were=
:
Cryonic Research Aetheric Condensor and Tinkers Damn - the first for the
humor, the 2nd for the contrast between formal form and surface. If I was
anywhere near Michigan, I'd be there!
I have also been spending lots of time in the studio this past spring &
summer when I could find time away from teaching. So much so that it led to
issues with shoulders and wrists, but physical therapy for 4 months has
gotten me nearly back to new, well, at least as new as a 62 year old can be=
.
My show opens later this month at the College of Southern Maryland, LaPlata=
,
Md. Here's the link to their gallery page that has an image representative
of what I will be showing: http://www.csmd.edu/Arts/HungerfordGallery.html
The work is wheel thrown assemblies with stoneware and crystalline glazes.
The title "Progression" describes my path of beginning with the concept of
two simple geometric forms; sphere & cone, and how the series progressed
from open to closed and lidded forms.
I plan on posting a select number of pieces from the show on my web site
after the show opens, but if any of you just happen to be wandering through
southern Maryland in January to March, stop on by.

Thank you for the very kind words, Bill. Thanks too, to the folks who
wrote to me off-list. Humor? I am into serious cryonics research here!
The skull fragment is from the last person who pissed me off, and if one's
aether is uncondensed, well, all havoc ensues, and I shan't be responsible
for the consequences!
The new stuff is from an extremely personal (and admittedly rather quirky)
aesthetic, and truth be told, I am a bit curious as to it's reception. Not
looking forward to the requisite gallery talk, as once the work is
explained, all of the mystery evaporates and the work dies. Kind of like
when you know how a magic trick is done.
Congrats on your show. Your new forms are exquisite (having had the
privilege of seeing more of them in photos you sent me some months ago),
and the added challenge of the crystalline glazing is simply over the top!
I won't be posting much for the next few months (collective sigh of
relief!), nor even reading clayart much, as I have another small show to
prepare for in Toledo next month, then a larger show of my industrial-based
work at Defiance College in the fall, assuming I can get more pieces made.
So much for my year-long sabbatical from clay!
Best to everyone.

Love your work. My husband has a similar aesthetic in his pieces. He has
only been at this for about a year. Makes press molds of pipe fittings and
gears for appendages to pots and tiles. Your pieces are inspiring him.
Your website is in my favorites for follow-up if we ever get near Michigan.
