i think/ from my reading/ is a conclusion
that as technology improved, new kilns
could fire to a higher temp. wood, coal etc. it was not
exclusive to wood only. anything that burned was used.
oil and gas came very late to kilns.
the chinese could make 2400F. porcelain.
i do not think it was fuel driven.
just as many trees in france and italy as germany.
there is a great story about wedgewood blue.
it came about because a young kiln builder built
a kiln that would hit cone 9. a new blue came out of that kiln.
not some great chemistry. just a great new kiln design.
