Hello - I am going to try laser decals but have a question about glaze
color. If I fire some glazes to cone 6, then add the laser decal and
refire to cone 06, will the color of the original glaze fired to cone 6
change? If I use a slow cool on the original cone 6 firing do I need to
slow cool the firing with the decals? I also wonder if the texture of the
original glaze might change if the melt starts at 06 but does not
completely melt?
If I am getting a color change and a slight change in texture, does that
mean that I could (and perhaps should) fire the decals lower than cone 06?
I would like to use the decals over clear, majolica and also some paler
colors. Because of color changes, would clear and majolica be my only
options?
Thanks in advance for your help.

In my experience, you'll get color change in some cone 6 copper
glazes...the copper color darkens even when you refire to a much lower
temperature.

This is probably not going to work since the iron bearing laser
image has no frit in it it will rub off the surface when you are
through. Possibly you can add some frit as marci advised last week
but it is not sure as the frit may bleach the iron image. This will
need testing.
Try firing the iron laser decal to cone 6 and it will be fine.
If by chance you are refering to decals made in a color laser
printer using Zimmer or BalteaDC toners it is a different story and
you will have no trouble if you specify the covercoat with glaze in
it.
What ever you do you should not greatly affect the cone 6 colors
unless you totally cover them with the low fire colors.

Some glazes will look the same; some will change
a heck of a lot. In general, true matte glazes (or
glazes capable of being matte) will tend to change
more, because refiring to a lower temp can have
effects similar to a slow cool. Glazes that seem to
stay glossy regardless of cooling rate will be less
affected.
