john, i had the problem years back.
the clay that our school was buying was mined
right next to a coal vein.
to me it smelled like an old coal stove
and the kiln room was blue smoke.
i called the company and they `hm,,no, no
ahhhh, what?`
it was coal. heavy sulphur burning in my kiln.
never bought that clay again.
it was an eastern company. they fixed the
problem.
my take is:
totally change the basic clay.
it is the only solution in my mind.
others may have another take.
it has to be coal in the clay.
