For years , when I was teaching drawing as well as ceramics, I included
a section, where I had my advanced students enter the Amateur
California Duck Stamp Competition. We were pretty much land locked
except for Mallards, so we drew from photographs. We never won first
place but we got several "Honorable Mentions". One of the schools up
North by Mt. Shasta usually won first place. They had a bird sanctuary
in their back yard. The stamp contest had a display at the California
Art Educators Conference so we got to see what other schools did. Good
experience for the kids. Mike Gordon
