Beside inducing the colour green Copper compounds have qualities common to
Chromium compounds. As far as I can ascertain oxides of both are insoluble
in Silicate melts and none of their oxides combine chemically with Silicon
dioxide.
It has been written that Copper atoms can exist within a silicate melt as
Cupric ions, Cuprous ions, Atomic Copper (single neutral atoms) and
crystalline Copper. The latter is responsible for red aventurine effects. I=

is also recorded that molten Copper oxide and Silicon dioxide are
immiscible.
