Steven Heinemann Ceramic Workshop
March 7 - 8, 1998 10am - 4pm
at Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific
Pedder Bay, Victoria, BC Canada
This workshop is presented by Metchosin Int'l. Summer School of the Arts in
conjunction with the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria as part of the
lecture/workshop series concurrent with the exhibition "Transformation -
Prix Saidye Bronfman Award 1977-96".
Steven Heinemann is one of Canada's best-known and most respected
ceramic artists, and has received great recognition and many awards for his
work. His large ceramic pieces are technical masterpieces. Since receiving
his Master of Fine Arts degree from Alfred University, New York, Steven has
taught and exhibited in Asia, Europe and across North America. His work is
in major private, corporate and public collections in many countries.
He was the 1996 recipient of the Saidye Bronfman Award, Canada's most
prestigious annual award in the crafts. (This award has also been received
by BC ceramic artists Robin Hopper, 1977, Wayne Ngan, 1983, and Walter
Dexter, 1992).
In this 2-day workshop Steven will discuss and demonstrate the
interplay of form and surface in his work. His demonstrations will include
slipcasting, pressmolding, handbuilding, and surfacing techniques. He will
discuss technical, aesthetic, philosophical and historical concerns relevant
to his work and to the field of ceramics in general. If time permits, there
will be group discussion and critique of participants' work.
Cost: $90.00 Canadian (includes GST) Refreshments and lunches are
included on both days. Make cheque payable to M.I.S.S.A. and send to:
