Instead of wax: We sometimes use Tung Oil on our Cone 04 Sigillata pots. Would probably work for smoke fired, etc. It comes in gloss and not glass. Use it VERY thinly, or apply and wipe off at the same time. (It only smells for a while). Diana Pancioli
