CLAYARTERS !
Sorry, I must have been having another of those "senior moments" I
inadvertently referred to ULTROX as a brand name of Titania...when we ALL
know it SHOULD have been ZIRCONIA (DUH !)
(Thanks to Tom Buck for catching my error!)
My mind wandered , aimlessly, as it turns out, from the Rutile/Illmenite
(Titania) discussion to the question on ULTROX (Zirconia) with 'the ease
of a clay slip.'
I have corrected the information...please erase the previous , original
post from your collective memory banks....and forgive an over - stressed
old geezer ! My apologies.

Spanish Red Iron Oxide is a standard type. Others may be just as good or
better.
a.k.a. Ferric Oxide Fe2O3

Superpax, Zircopax, Ultrox, Opax, etc., are all BRAND NAMES for
ZIRCONIA , and ZIRCONIUM OXIDE or more commonly, ZIRCONIUM SILICATE is
used in ceramic glazes to opacify, or "make white", it is sometimes
substituted wholly , or in part, as a subsititute for TIN OXIDE ( which is
more expensive, but some think it "softer" white and less harsh than ZrO. )
Available at your local ceramic supply store. ( A white glaze might
contain 1-15 % opacifier such as Ultrox. )
BTW.... According to HAMER ... Zirconium Silicate has a PCE of 4622
degrees F. (2550 degrees C.) and with the addition of 10 % China Clay (eg.
EPK., in USA.) it can make an excellent Kiln Wash.
