I am looking for ANY information that ANYone can give me on a WHITE lava=3D=
20=3D
glaze=3D20
I have been trying for over a year to create a WHITE bubble/foam/growing=3D=
20=3D
texture glaze I have been told countless times that I cannot produce this=
=3D
kind=3D20
of a texture in white, because of the ingredients in such glaze (usually =
=3D
silicon=3D20
carbide)=3D20
HOWEVER, while digging through old commercial glazes that were donated to=
=3D
=3D20
our studio quite some time ago, I found a glaze from Westwood Hobby Craft=
=3D
=3D20
labeled EM 4375 WHITE LAVA - this gave me the exact texture and surface=3D2=

quality I have been searching for - white, fluffy/billowy appearance, sli=

ght=3D20
pits, it actually grew in the kiln (easily doubled in size when fired=3D20
vertical/horizontal)=3D20
I typed the address on the jar into a search engine and was directed to=3D2=
0=3D
Laguna, which bought Westwood Hobby Craft in 1991=3D20
I have contacted Laguna and they are looking for the fired samples to see=
=3D
if it=3D20
can be made - they said it was a leaded frit base, and they believe there=
=3D
is a=3D20
leadless version as well=3D20
I am fully aware of Duncan Fired Snow and Mayco Snowfall, as well as=3D20
Reward's? Hart Superfire? Snow Fluff (unsure of the actual brand, found i=
=3D
n the=3D20
same cabinet as the White Lava glaze) - all gave a very=3D20
heavy/processed/pasty/satin white surface quality - White Lava has a very=
=3D
=3D20
light and almost translucent white quality, while still opaque=3D20
I have tried:=3D20
silicon carbide slips under glazes (all turned a dark nasty grey)=3D20
lava and crater glazes without colorants (usually still contain silicon c=
=3D
arbide)=3D20
antimony oxide added to engobe, mid-range to high fired
frit + bone ash, low-fired=3D20
lichen, crawl, and crackle glazes=3D20
If anyone has any other suggestions on how to achieve this kind of textur=

e in=3D20
white, it would be greatly appreciated=3D20
Also, if you just so happen to have a stash of this Westwood White Lava g=
=3D
laze,=3D20
I would gladly pay you for the glaze and shipping!=3D20
I have attatched photos - though not the best - showing the surface quali=
=3D
ty as=3D20
well as how the white lava grows in the kiln both vertically and horizont=
=3D
ally=3D20
(as compared to Mayco Snowfall)=3D20
Thank you to anyone who could possibly help!

Hi,
Try one of the glazes at
http://lagunaclay.com/glazes/specialty06/artificial-salt.php
The *EM-1245* Light Cream (M) should work for you. It is a base
glaze-meaning you can add your own stains and oxides for a custom color i=
=3D
f
you like. It is made to bubble, crust and crater. Fire to cone 06.
