As I was surfing the web this morning, for perfectly self-centered
reasons (trying to find funding for needed studio purchases); I stumbled
across a jewel of significance to many of us, I believe. It was the
text of a speech given in 1997 and I'll append the title info:

conference of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies.
It is one of the most well-woven, thought stimulating things I've read
in a while on the topic of the artist's role in society. Maybe it will
