i would like to display some of my work on the internet

Why not Etsy?
Yeah, the Etsy culture is kinda cheesy, but if you view it as a
storefront/shopping cart, its a great solution.
While I have a website and link to my Etsy shops (I know HTML and have
my own server, so its "free"), you could do a very customizable and free
blog at Blogger.com and link to an Etsy storefront.
Just an idea...

Thanks for the response, blogger.com sounds interesting, I'll give it a
look. Do you have to update it on any time frame or will is sit quietly
when I'm thinking of other things.

Feel free to reach out to me on occasion. I do IT work, and have a fair
amount of detailed experience with this stuff.

A simple solution when someone asks me what I do, I can just send them
to my page. . I had a homepage for ten years, I didn't use it that much
but it did come in handy for that time. . I think I sold one piece of
blown glass off of it in those ten years. The price was right at the
time ,it didn't cost anything. I would like a solution that cost that
amount, if there's such a animal.

Blogger is a good direction to go, and it won't expect 'regular feeding'.
There are some decent template or themes.

Another option is Wordpress, which is super easy to use and has a bigger
and better selection of themes. You can find Wordpress themes designed for
photo galleries.

Tumblr is best for a quick, clean and easy to use graphic presentation of
work. *Way* easier to use than Blogger.

My site porcelainforest.tumblr.com took all of 10 minutes to set up. Of
course I should update it every now and again but that's another story.

As far as I know Wordpress isn't keen on people selling work from their
blogs, linking to Etsy or paypal etc, Blogger is ok with these

This is only when using wordpress's free hosting service. I would
recommend having your own domain name - it's inexpensive, can be used
with wordpress (you need to check your host if they are wordpress
friendly) and looks more professional...not to mention easier to
remember the url for some people.

I sell pots on my own site and mine is a wordpress driven site. You can
see it at
http://www.gallagherpottery.com.

You can click on 'gallery' for a slide show of work, and 'store' for sales.

Dang! Good to know.

I use a hosting service, Dreamhost.... There are others... From which I can
run a Wordpress site, not hosted _at_ Wordpress.com. That gives me more
freedom. Not too expensive, but not free.
