Hello clayarters,
Hope someone can help. Looking for plans, drawings, sketch on paper, that one
can send me,or post ideas, on best way to add a second sink to classroom.
Without making the additional sink a permanent fixture, and yet be able to
drain into existing drainage system. Need to consider a simple filtering
system for clay. Maybe water can be "hosed" in, and maybe out-water can be
"pvc" out. Maybe even on rollers? Anyway, hope this gets some ideas rolling
in, Can't wait to ckeck my mail in the next couple of days. Till next time!

OK. I do not have a drain in my studio. What I do have is a sink that
with a straight piece of drain pipe that is just long/short enough to
clear the top of a 5 gallon plastic bucket (the white kind one can get
free from one's buddy at the cafeteria/restaurant/supermarket deli.
I have several buckets.. As one fills it is put aside, and replaced. The
next day the water is syphoned off, the stuff inside either dumped into a
"holding tank" which would hold the stuff collected from several buckets,
or allowed to dry in original bucket till it can be bagged in a plastic
bag and disposed off with the trash. The syphoned off water is poured out
intothe garden.
Some people put little platforms with wheels under the bucket. You might
consider getting a couple of those square plastic buckets
(always yellow as far as I know) used for mopping floors. They are sold
in places that sell janitorial supplies. As to supplying water: I think a
shelf above the sink, and gallon jugs of water (milk jugs) is cheap,
easy--and practicable.
And you might want to read The $1200 Studio in the May 1995 Ceramics
Monthly.

The system I have in my garage/studio is a plastic laundry tub (the kind on
legs). They cost about $45 at a hardware store. The hose from outside
brings water to a faucet on the laundry tub. The flow of water is controlled
by the faucet handle. The drain is a flexible plastic tube leading from the
bottom of the tub. This plastic tubing is then connected to PVC pipe. I
suppose this could be put on wheels. BTW, this set up was a Mother's Day
present from my family. As my husband was making the connections he joked,
"Well, Barbara, I think you must be the only woman in America that asked for
a laundry tub for Mother's Day!" Good luck, Barbara
