Was the Pyrometer made in china?

I was using my Fluke pyrometers this weekend to measure the temp in the woo=
d
kiln. It stopped working and I assumed the battery died. I replaced the 9v
battery and it still doesn't work! It turns on then I get nothing but a lin=
e
of dashes where the temp should be. The thermocouple appears to be ok. It
did get a little damp this weekend. Anyone have any idea how to check it
out? Does anyone repair these things? Also tried a new analog pyrometer I
bought on eBay. Would not go over 1200F. Don't really want to buy another
one!

maybe you plugged the thermocouple in backwards? on some cheapo
models that can happen, though I wouldn't think so with a fluke. more
likely the thermocouple inside the kiln has corroded and no longer has
a sound joint. try replacing that.

Hello Linda,
Are you able to measure the resistance of the thermocouple? What does it
read with the thermocouple removed?
Regards
Pete

I get that display when there is a bad connection or a short-out. This is w=

Linda,
Have you checked to see if you have a short near the molded plug end? I was
seeing my FLUKE pyrometer cutt out during my last saggar firings. The
failure was intermittent, so I wiggled the extension wire and found that
the right bend near the plug would put the probe back in service. I ordered
a replacement straight away. I guess I can catch the thermocouple wire with
my foot as I'm unloading a kiln just a few times before it starts to give
me trouble.
My FLUKE has two probe inputs, so if yours is the same be sure you have
selected the correct input as well.
Hope you have things working soon.
