Have you tried asking Mr. Turner how he does it? I looked at his site =3D
and he says to call or email with any questions.

I use Scott's Red, cone 6 ox, and it looks very similar to the photos on =
=3D
Tom Turner's site. It is a chrome tin red with gerstley borate blue =3D
opalescence. I love the true red color.

I know Tom and he won't be sharing. Also knowing him, I'm sure he is still
tweaking the glaze. Tom has given up reduction firing and gone total
electric. He had been working with oil spot glazes and recently began with
crystalline and localized reduction red glazes.

I worked for a short period of time with low fire chrome red crystalline
glazes - these cam out fire engine red, but the glaze contains a large
percentage of lead, so I gave that up not wanting to expose myself to
potentially dangerous materials.

Very impressive. Knowing that it can actually be done is good to know. Vino=

I don't have the recipes handy but I remember one of the first glazes I e=
=3D
ver used=3D20
was Laguna Chun Red (which is a Si C local reduction red or electric kiln=

s). It is=3D20
still available :

http://www.lagunaclay.com/glazes/moroccansand/ms32.php

But the trick is to apply it thick on porcelain or white stoneware ! And =
=3D
then fire it=3D20
either twice, the first time to cone 6, apply a second coat and then fire=
=3D
it a=3D20=3D20
second time to cone 7. Or once to cone 6 with a soak and let cone 7 drop=
=3D
.

The problem is you get pinholes from the escaping gasses so you have to w=

ork=3D20
that out.

I just saw Tom Turner at NCECA and his pots are fantastic. Tom's electric=

copper reds are fired at cone 9, but they are possible at cone 6 as well.=

We=3D20
just introduced our new Coyote cone 6 electric copper reds at NCECA this=3D=

year.

Check them out at http://coyoteclay.com/

I've been working on electric copper reds for about 2 years, and they are=
=3D
=3D20
finally ready to sell. They don't need special firing; cone 6 fast or con=

a 40 minute hold both work fine.
