new-found freedom, a pug mill story

The clay in the bag from the vendor was too hard.
The clay from recycling was too soft.
More time was spent in preparing clay than in creating.
I was frustrated and doing nothing.
Life is too short.
Gotta do something about this, or quit clay altogether.

A primary goal of attending NCECA this year was to
examine every pug mill or mixer/pug mill present.
Hopefully to come home with one.
Having never used a pug mill before I went there ignorant.
I came home confused.

Single auger pug mill - cheapest.
Double auger pug mill - better mixing.
Mixer/pug mill - costly.
Did I really need de-airing?

What to do, what to do?
Weeks went by.

Then I ran across a used mixer/pug mill at a good price.
Went for it.

A complete transformation has occurred.
I am no longer stingy with clay.

I throw pots just for the practice with no intent of keeping any.
If the wall gets too thin I don't try to save it, I just start over.
I go for the really big kiln-filling pot. (not successful yet )
If mug handles are ugly or fall off no big deal.

Oh, why did I wait so long.

than a kiln load of pots to dry so I can bisque.

Good post! If you learn or discover nothing else the rest of this year you =
=3D
are still running way ahead of the game. Indecision is always the #1 killer=

.

I like to remind myself that the only regrets I wish to ponder as I "go int=

have and didn't.
