I guess that beats out the "Tillamook Cheesemakers".

"The Fighting Okra" - do the Cheerleaders ( or Mascots at least ) dress up
in 'Okra' Costumes?

My favorite team name was the University of Northern Colorado "Fighting
Whities". It was an intramural basketball team during the era when people
were making a big deal out of sport teams named after American Indian
tribes. The Fighting Whities (originally the Fighting Whites) named
themselves such, and adopted a logo featuring a caricatured 1950s white guy
in a suit, in order to insult white folks in the same way that they
imagined Indians might be insulted by Indian names and caricatures. The
stunt backfired on the Fighting Whities, though. People all over the
country loved the team name and logo, and started requesting and ordering
Fighting Whities clothing and merchandise. They sold so much of the stuff
that they were able to endow a scholarship fund for American Indian
students at the university.

Go, Fighting Whities! Beat the Okra!

Hi Lois,

Yes but...are they "The FIGHTING Banana Slugs"??

I miss seeing Banana Slugs...used to come across them often when Hiking or
out walking in the inland low Mountains around Santa Cruz or up in Coastal
Marin too, way back when.

They are so tranquil and serene and 'dreamy'...hard to imagine them
'fighting' about anything, or needing to.

Do they suffer predation from anyone?

Tiny Slugs, various Birds or Rodents would or might eat...but the Banana
Slugs are so large, or are as Adults anyway, dunno who if anyone in Nature
would ever bother them.

Hi Phil=3D2C
Predation? How about serving "Slug-car-go" at your next event? I'm sure s=
=3D
omeone eats them.=3D20
=3D20
Perhaps they will rise in human esteem if our other natural sources of anim=

Time was, that would have been a badass name,=3D20
harkening back to its biblical origins as the name=3D20
of a great hunter. Bugs Bunny used it sarcastically=3D20
to describe Elmer Fudd, so for most Americans, that=3D20
referent has entirely subsumed the original meaning.
Too bad for the folks in Watersmeet, I suppose.
