mystery of gmail vs email client software solved!

For those of us who are using an email client with Gmail as our primary
email server - we don't get copies of our own messages to the listservs
reflected back to us. Kind of makes a disconnect in the conversation
thread. This also happens on Groups as well.

Turns out that Gmail automatically sends your listserv copy of your
original message into your account archive - not into your Gmail inbox
where it can be read by your email client software such as Thunderbird
or others. When it goes into the archive, the client software cannot get
it because it reads only your Gmail account INBOX. It seems that there
is no convenient way to fix this. You can go into your Gmail account,
look up the archive, find your copy of the message you sent to the
listserv, move into your inbox and then open your client software and
download that message. But what a PITA that is. Google mail does this to
keep your inbox from becoming overloaded when you are getting mail from
a mailing list or group. Kind of silly when your can get all the other
message from the inbox. Why just listserv mail that is a copy of your
original message? I haven't a clue.

Anyway, live with it until some other solution is found, or get another
mail server.
