Hi all / buongiorno tutti!

Back just over a week ago, from my travels to Italy. One of the main
aims for this trip was to visit Faenza, something I have wanted to do
for ages. The Museum is famous and I wanted to see it to confirm its
wonderfulness for myself. At last I got there and can confirm, it is
wonderful! Anyone who is planning a trip to Italy, if you can manage
to get there it is definitely worth it.

The collection is amazing, and the building, formerly a monastery, is
so beautiful, that I imagine even a non-clayhead would enjoy wandering
around, admiring the setting. There is a newly built section, one of
those amazing museum additions they do where you cannot figure out how
so much extra space can be added and not look squished in. The local
product is, of course, well represented - zillions of stunningly
beautiful maiolica pots. Then there is all the pottery from other
parts of Italy, other parts of the world, moving along up to modern
times... So much, so gorgeous!

I took a train from Bologna to Faenza, about 40 minutes. The museum
took up most of the day, so I didn't really see very much of the town
itself, which is a shame, as what I saw of it was lovely. I plan to
go back and do some more wandering around.

It was an interesting trip in various ways. London - Paris - Milan -
Bologna by train. A couple of days after I arrived in Bologna, the
first earthquake struck Emilia-Romagna. The city is far enough from
the worst-hit areas, so although we felt the quake and the
aftershocks, there was no damage. Scary experience though.

I'm editing some photos which I will put on Flickr. The Faenza museum
is a bit strict and says no to photography of any individual pieces
without filling in a form to say where they will be published. Of
course, I thought this didn't apply to me as I don't plan to publish,
I just want my own selection of eye candy, but then I thought hang on,
does an online photo-sharing thingy count as publishing? How about
Facebook? Not sure how this all works.

Ciao!
