Are they including the film industries in that count? Plus the rich people =
who've been trading in their paper fiat money that's going down the tubes f=
or priceless art during the recession. At least one of those has sold in th=
e last year for over 100 million for a single painting.

I just looked over the report on Americans for the Arts website which was=
=3D
=3D20
written in the Huffington Post and commented on here. I did not see any=3D2=
0=3D
thing remotely related to the film industry and big ticket art purchases.=
=3D
The=3D20
biggest engine driving the art train is Broadway for theater. All cities =
=3D
seem=3D20
to have non-profits and cultural institutions generating direct economic=3D=
20=3D
activity. They also include related or indirect economic activity such as=
=3D
=3D20
buying a can of paint for scenery, paying babysitters, dinner before a pl=
=3D
ay=3D20
and parking. Several cities are cultural destinations for museums so they=
=3D
also=3D20
count revenue from hotels for cultural tourists. They not only surveyed t=
=3D
he=3D20
non-profits but the had audience exit surveys. This study took two years =
=3D
and=3D20
seems pretty complete. But, they do say the economic impact of the arts i=
=3D
s=3D20
down from 2005, but isn't everything? The point is that Arts matter and w=
=3D
e=3D20
as part time or full time artists need to know this stuff so we can help=3D=
20=3D
promote the arts in our communities instead of watching programs be=3D20
demolished.

We just got back from 30 Years of McKnight Fellowships Celebration.
There was a packed all of McKnight Artists. Our community, public
and private, supports the arts. You can read about the fellowships
hereL

McKnight Artist Fellowships
Support for individual artists has been a cornerstone of The McKnight
Foundation's Arts program since it began in 1981. We believe that the
arts cannot flourish or enhance community life without the ideas,
energy, and drive of individual artists, and that artists cannot make
these contributions without unfettered creative time. A fellowship can
help an artist set aside periods of time for study, reflection,
experimentation, and exploration; take advantage of an opportunity; or
work on a new project.
Currently, the Foundation contributes about $1.7 million per year to
its statewide fellowships, and additional funds support individual
artists in Greater Minnesota. In 2000, as a result of a statewide
artist survey, McKnight raised its annual artist fellowship stipend
from $10,000 to $25,000.
