Roly, there's no need to damper if you're just using soda. Soda pretty much=
stay put where you put it. What I used to do was create a bit of turbulenc=
e in the kiln right after introducing some soda, by pushing the damper in a=
nd out several times.

We had another go at firing the soda kiln. This time we
tried spraying soda as well as dropping it in through a
spy hole. I have posted pictures on the blog:
http://rolyspottery.blogspot.co.uk/, both of the opening
and in a previous post during the firing (as a video;
you get a bit of David Oliver playing his accordion Its
all right, we are allowed to do this in Northumberland,
our own bagpipes too).
So another question. When we put soda in we damp the
chimney to slow the flow through the pots, and cover the
door. If spraying soda makes flame come out round the
gaps in the door are we damping the chimney too much,
so the flow is going backwards?
We were busy firing so we missed the Olympic Torch. Yes
they came all the way to Hexham to convince us that we
should enjoy C***-cola and M*** bars, wasn't that kind
of the organisers?
Happy potting
Roly
