Last week I started using a new spray gun for glazing -- a Sharp Platinum
2011. It's HVLP (high volume low pressure) with a gravity feed cup. Even
using as little as 10 psi (3-4 scfm!) it lays down a nice, solid pattern --
and it does this it gently you don't risk a bare spot working up close, the
way some spray guns do. And at low pressures, the spray is fine -- not
splattery. I've been searching for the "HVLP sprayer of my dreams" for
more than two years, and I think I finally found it!

This wasn't a cheap sprayer, but it can be used with a conventional
compressor (doesn't need a multi-stage air pump). There's a lot less
overspray (and waste) to clean up. And if we want to use it for spraying
other materials, we only need to use a different tip (orifice) with the
existing aircap. I'm banking on long-term economy rather than "penny
savings."

Sharpe has a website at http://www.sharpe1.com, complete with an "ask a
pro" page, if anyone wants to check them out.

Happy, happy!

PS -- If it goes "gunny sack" in six months, I'll tell you about that, too!
