I love these stories about families. I'm not as frugal as my mom, or my
grandmothers for that matter. I've been affected by the seeming abundance
around me. But I still use teabags twice and reuse aluminum foil and
sandwich bags as often as feasible cause that's how I was raised.

only finished the third grade in elementary school because they worked full
time jobs. They moved to Texas to work in the textile mills. At one time,
my grandmother mended sheets in one of the hospitals in Dallas. I remember
her telling me about her co-workers who complained about not being able to
make ends meet. She had little sympathy for them since they spent a lot of
their earnings on the vending machines at work. My grandmother always
brought her lunch from home and never bought anything from the machines.
She found time to make most of my clothes because "store bought" clothes
were expensive and shoddily made. She also went with my grandfather to the
feed store to pick out the "perfect" chicken feed sacks which she used to
make some of my dresses and "small clothes." She washed her aluminum foil
over and over and over to reuse till it was worn out. She was really smart
for a small town girl who only finished the third grade.
