Tony,

I saw on a blog recently where you were saying
timing is everything when it comes to slipping
pots. With bad timing you had handles falling
off, slip cracking, etc.

So, hey Teach,
Ceramics 101 stupid question #42;
Why slip?

If you want a white pot to show off glaze colors
why not use a white clay body in the first place?
If you want the iron colored foot then why not
use a white body and slip just the bottom in red?

There's gotta be something here I'm missing
which is why I'm asking the question.

I was hoping to run into you in Seattle but I guess
our convoluted paths never crossed.

who once tried pouring red slip over a white pot
which took three days to handbuild
and watched the pot suddenly collapse into itself
sob, sob...

Earl
I use coloured slips made to casting slip consistency.
Very thick, sprayed at 100 psi instead my usual 40 psi.
Minimal wetting of pot. Black, red, blue, whatever,
over porcelain.
No sob, sob...no worries :-D

I know I'm not TC, but I've done my share of Slipware, and for me the under=
