Hello ClayArt'rs!

New dance goin' round hereabouts called the Sacramento Slosh.

Anyways, I'm in a ceramics sculpture class and doing a special project
on mid-range slips. Does anyone have a basic recipe for a mid-range
slip that fires in the 05 to 3 range? Something that fires white and
can be colored using oxides or mason stains. I've pulled off everything
in the achives which might seem to apply and gone through the books I
have but not really found what I'm looking for.

Go read this ..., is ok, too!

Materials readily available in Sacramento a plus!

Feel like I'm writing a classified! Maybe I am.

Thanks, Werner in Sacramento where the wintry rains keep comin' and it's
lots o' fun to walk in and feel the coolness and freshness.

THis is Ron Dale's all purpose Engobe, its works great on greenware and
bisque. We fire to ^6 but I think it goes higher. It looks great in low
fire and stains are easily added.

EPK 20
Ball clay OM4 20
Neph Sye 25
Flint 30
Borax 5
Bentonite 2

Hope this helps

From GLAZES FOR THE STUDIO POTTER, Cooper & Royce: Earthenware slip; 50
each China Clay (Kaolin) & Ball Clay, 20 Spar 10 flint. I prefer to use XX
Sagger as ball clay, though I've used Tenn#10 to good effect because both
are white in the raw state. Therfore they not only offer nice contrast to
other clips, BUT you can tint them easily with food coloring if you add
stains. You may have to adjust a little to get proper fit under your
transparent.
