Well yes but the original was the stage musical in London with Rex Harrison
and Julie Andrews and much better than the movie. I think. And the dresse=
s
for the famous Ascot scene were lavenders and greys and dusty pinks. Not a
black dress in sight. To wear black at Ascot would have been considered a
dreadful faux pas, absolutely not the done thing. Black was reserved for
funerals and foreigners. Julie Andrews was unhappy at not being selected
for the movie and rightly so. Subsequent productions of the musical always
have black after the Hollywood version.
