We have an EnviroVent2 installed on our Skutt kiln here at the Art Center.
I was just about to bisque a pretty full kiln load of Summer art camp stuff
when I noticed the vent motor didn't come on when the relays clicked for
the first time. I've pulled the motor with mounting bracket off the wall
and noticed quite a bit of moisture in the housing. Sure enough the
squirrel cage is pretty rusted. I spun it a few times to loosen up whatever
and now the motor turns on. I was suspicious of the placement of our old
vent, but when I installed this new kiln, I didn't want to make anymore
wall penetrations if I didn't have to. This wall is maybe 40 feet from the
bay and catches our dominant SE winds.
I would love to know what others have done for their rain shields in
similar situations. I'm willing to move the vent hole if I need to, but I'm
not sure where as this room is pretty exposed to the bay and weather.
Anyone taken their vent through the floor?
Thanks for the help, peeps.

We have 2 vents at school one for a single kiln, the other serves two
kilns.
Couple years back we changed out the flex vent for solid metal ducts. The
flex line had just been eaten away with moisture and corrosion from fumes.
Had to switch out motor for one vent - just rusted away the squirrel cage.
This is just going to happen.
