skutt control-box connectors

I'd love to hear from anyone who has installed the
retrofit one-piece control box on a Skutt manual kiln
(replacing the old-style separate boxes on each ring).

I'd also like to hear from anyone who has tried another
work-around for when the inter-ring connectors go bad.

I can't decide if the factory replacement box is worth the
money, especially since I'd lose the versatility of the
separate, unstackable rings. And I assume I'd have to
reattach all the elements. On the other hand, I'd get a
new timer and sitter with fresh uncorroded wires. The
cost of good quality aftermarket electrical connectors
isn't cheap, either, so the 'do-it-myself' option isn't free.

How easy is it to disconnect the retrofit replacement box
when unstacking rings? Any unforseen issues? Any
clever alternatives out there? Do tell!

I for one would like more info on this as well. Recently I found a used =

electric 23" kiln with some type of old electronic controller. Being in v=

shape and with no working circuits I am planning on stripping out all the=

elements and putting on ITC, then new wires and connectors and control bo=

fact, I am even entertaining the idea of taking off the sleeve and wrappi=

ng it in=3D20
Kaowool to get very slow cooling. This step could render the control box=3D=

obsolete as I wouldn't have to use it for slow cooling, and I would only =

have to=3D20
purchase a regular kiln sitter.

So, may you clayarters who know a thing or two about rebuilding kilns giv=

good puff of wind of worthy advise?
