Hi,
I understand there are lighter kiln shelves. I have a KM 818 kiln (digita=

l),
and I wondered are there lighter shelves than the stock ones I got at
Georgie's. I know there are for propane kilns, but are there for mine. I=

t
would help my pain.
Thanks,
Cheryl

Yes, there are lighter shelves, the brand name is Corelite.
The maker is Resco. The shelves are extruded and are high alumina.
They will need to be coated with kiln wash.
I fired them to cone 10 for ovre a year without flipping and they stayed
flat.
Here is the section I wrote for Mel's book listed on www.kilnshelf.com :

FYI - to you and everyone - DO NOT use Corelite for raku firing, they will
break!

I use Advancer shelves in my electric kiln. They have good and not so =3D
good characteristics. Here is the link to the company:

The best feature is that they are light weight. The second best is that =
=3D
they do not warp after firing. You should be aware that you need to use =3D
kiln wash on the ends of kiln posts or they will stick to the shelves. I =
=3D
use self-supporting cones and have found that they also stick to the =3D
shelves so I put a small tile underneath them. In my latest cone 6 =3D
firing, I put grog under a plate to aid shrinkage movement and the grog =3D
stuck to the shelves but did scrape off pretty easily with a putty =3D
knife. The biggest consideration is that they are expensive. You can =3D
also read other considerations on the manufacturer's web site at the =3D
link I included above.
Corderite shelves are another option. I don't have experience with them.
