What a lovely post "Communion with a friend." A perfect description of the
spirit of the potter in the pots.
As I went coughing and sneezing into my kitchen the other day, I opened my
cabinet looking for the right bowl for my homemade chicken soup. Something
more than the right size and shape. I chose a deep, faceted bowl of Jeff
Oestreichs. The perfection of the glaze application on this pot amazes me.
The memory of a visit to Jeff's studio in Maine, that sunny summer day was
a warming as the bowl of soup.
Yes, I know that all pottery purchases are not this up close and personal.
But every piece of clay retains energy from the hands that molded it and
guided it through its journey toward a permanent form, capable of giving
energy back, and telling a story. I love making the functional pots that
enhance everyday life and having sculpture around me that is like a garden
for my spirit in the winter, or makes me smile.
