I guess I'll venture in here, being the owner of 2 CI wheels, one an HP
purchased in 86 and the other a JR purchased in 89. The HP is the old
style with the angle iron frame and large fiberglass(?) table. The JR is
the new all fiberglass table and frame.
The HP runs extremely quietly, easily takes 35 lbs for centering and is
all around an excellent wheel.
The JR has, to me, several shortcomings which may or may not have been
addressed by CI. First they molded their logo into the middle table,
making wet cleanup a small pain. What gets to be a big pain is that they
molded the wheelhead bearing strengtheners into the top, under the
wheelhead. This gives a series of pockets to collect crud and literally
impossible to clean without kneeling down to look under the wheel and
then going in with something like a stick or ?. I'm not that rententive
about cleanup, but, especially in a school setting this would be a
problem. I use the JR for trimming and the trimming pieces also get
stuc under the wheel.
Also, the JR is noisy. Don't know if this is a fuction of the small
motor or the belting system or the way I've got it adjusted, but it's
loud enough to be an issue. In any case, I'd say go for the big motor if
you're going to buy one.
Hope this helps
