Well, as the Tozan Grandma Mo sez (!) it was a GREAT occasion. We don't
know yet how well it did at raising funds, but it was a major success
artistically and in terms of general enjoyment. There were about a hundred
dinner (sushi) sets contributed by potters from all over, and the variety
and beauty of the pieces was almost overwhelming. (The deal was, that
people who bought the $100 tickets drew a number when they arrived. Then
they could view all the sets and make a note of their favourites. Their
ticket numbers were then called in groups of eight, and they went up to
claim the set they wanted. Everybody I spoke to said their only problem was
an embarrassment of choice.) Pictures were taken of all the different
designs, and when they are developed, they will be posted at some web-site
or other, and clayart will be notified.
Then the dinner! The food was utterly spectacular, and I am still dazzled
in memory of the beautiful presentation and fabulous flavours that Keiko
and clayart's own "Tozan Jan" produced. No "outside catering" here, we'll
have you know!
There was so much loving attention to detail at every step of the evening,
from the tiny bright origami birds that perched on each set of dishes, to
the impressive collection of kimonos hanging from the rafters, to the
graceful ancient buddhist flute music and the elegant choreography of the
traditional tea ceremony.
The executive committee did an incredible job. Everyone worked themselves
silly, and yet with so much cheerful cooperation and affection. It's a
wonderful bunch of people, and I was proud to have taken even a minor part.
Stay tuned for the pictures! (I just hope they turn out well)

Hi Everyone;
It's me again. To add the Veronica's and Tozan Grandma's comments, I wanted
to mentioned how good it felt to be contributing to such a worthy cause.
After having experienced the Anagama firing last year, I realized how very
honored we are to have these fine kilns to fire in. One of the things that
impressed me thought was the diversity of the artist's inteepretation on the
7 piece Japanese dinner sets. The glaze and style of each set was as unique
as each potter. By the way Veronica's glaze was amazing. It was like having
a brief visit with each artist and it felt very intimate to eat from a dish
made by another potter. There was also a silent auction and ....I'm not
bragging here...but I was presented with a birthday gift of a five piece
Linda Christinson set fired at the Anagama firing. It had a special meaning
because I was there and Linda and I have shared my breakfast since.
So thank you to all the potters who cared enough to take the time out of
their busy schedules to share their work.
OK Barb in Nanaimo, does this note sound more like me?
Have a great day.
Have you taken the time to watch the the new spring flowers peeking through
the soil?
