poor reduction

Thanks for all of the responses I've gotten regarding the reduction problems
we are having. Some of you have asked for additional information on the kiln
so here are it's specs. It is a homemade 9cu sprung arch downdraft with two
large (btu rating not known) natural draft burners centered on each side. The
burner ports are 4" X 41/2" and the exit flue is 4" x 9". The burners are
mounted 1" away from the kiln. The stack is 8-1/2' tall. The bag walls are
set back about 2-1/2" from the inside walls and are 12" high with 1/2" gaps
between the bricks. The kiln shelves have 1" clearance from the back wall of
the kiln and from the bag walls. The bottom shelves are set 1-1/2" above the
floor which also has a channel 1-1/2" deep by 8" across leading to the exit
flue. We use a clay shelf for the damper and it is set between 2-1/2" to as
liitle as 1-3/4" for reduction. Thanks again for comments and suggestions
