(do you think it has anything to do with getting a clennell pot.?
made me feel insignificant.)

I understand the cleansing part, but other than that..... why did you

Actually, you can - but wear protective glasses ;-)

Must have been in the air !! Yesterday, I took a purchased
table, smashed a whole bunch of pots, and have been making
a mosaic table top. It's my 1st. Not finished yet, but
titled.

yeah, this is a good rainy day activity. (altho with as many rainy days
as we have had here in NC, i might run out of pots!)

i save all the pieces in a big box labelled "mosaic". my teenage son
derides this loudly, "you know you'll never do it". humph, i say.
it may take a while ( or a century), but one day.... in any case
you can get the pieces back out and smash them some more if
you feel the need. and with this many rainy days the need is likely.

Yesterday, I sold three bowls for $75. that were half price because I'd had
to grind off glaze drips on their bottoms. A couple who visited my studio
said they were glad I hadn't destroyed them because they couldn't have
afforded perfect ones. I realize that these will probably be the ones that
are around 100 years from now, but other than the drips, they were fine
bowls - no embarrassment. Pieces that I hate enough to destroy rarely make
it to the glaze firing. I'd like to hear the rationale for destroying 50
pots - and I mean this sincerely...what am I missing here?

Hi Jan:

I don't know how many pots you make in a year, but I make lots (I'm
a production potter). Stuff I hate also doesn't make it to a glaze
fire, BUT, *stuff* happens in the glaze fire. Things crawl; kiln
wash flakes and lands on hot, melting glaze; the odd piece will crack
or throw out a piece of clay; glaze experiments "fail"; etc etc etc.
These pieces are not saleable - or even give-away-able :) They are
the ones I use for my mosaic.

absolutly theraputic, I have all my rejects saved in a box. when my
son or I really need to destroy something we are ready. for safety
sake, we started this when my son was about 10, we get safety goggles
and then put the pot in a box and beat the immortal out of it with a
maul or the butt end of an axe, or doubble bag it and hurl it against
the basement wall. altho I must admit that there have been times that I
have been so frustrated with teenage behavior that I have just gone to
the basement and just pitched them against the wall without any safety
stuff. I guess that is one good thing about studios in unfinished
basements, you don't have to worry about hurting the walls or floors.
