G. Epstein wants to watercolour on clay. For an absolutely gorgeous
surface, use MAJOLICA! I have a tasty recipe for it; I believe it
originated from Diedre Daw. The white Majolica base is applied to
bisqueware (your white "canvas" on which to paint!) Then work the
colorant/gerstley washes as you would watercolour. Guaranteed to look
fabulous....

DAW MAJOLICA cone 04-03
FRIT 3124 65.75
F-4 FELDSPAR 17.24
AVERY or EPK 10.82
NEPH. SY. 6.24
TIN OX. 5.
ZIRCOPAX 10.
BENTONITE 2.

COLORANT/OVERGLAZE: 50-80% stain + 50-20% gerstley borate
use mason stains; also straight copper in a gerstley wash is beautiful!
Anyone who loves to paint will get hooked on this stuff!
Good luck,

Janis,
Have been working in Majolica for the past 6 years. Love the stuff but my base
glaze via Linda Arbuckle, tends to pin hole and sometimes pull away in spots.
Have re worked the base glaze, run it thinner, etc, etc. How does this base
glaze react? What problems, if any, do you have with it? And how do you
correst it? I will mix a batch and give it a try.
