Hello all,

Playing with Glazes and wanted to experiment with Randy's
Green a little. I've been firing
Randy's Green from Ruthann's soda firing book in cone 10
salt reduction. I'd like to try firing a version of Randy's

green in both Cone 5-6 oxidation no-salt and also in ^5-6
reduction. Has anyone had any experience with this and/or
has a variation of the recipe that will work?

Any help would be grealty appreciated,

Thanks much,

John Baisch

Hi John. I got this copy of Randy"s Green at a workshop, where it was
described as a C 10 glaze. It works very well as is at C 5-6 and is a deep
forest green, slightly translucent. Occasionally I have underfired it to C4,
where it becomes matte and slightly metallic and looks very nice.
Randy"s Green 7336 gram batch
F/4 feldspar 1400
Potash feldspar 1670
Ball clay OM 4 800
Silica 1280
Strontium carb 1000
Whiting 700
Dolomite 486
Tin oxide 293.44 (4%)
Copper Carb 440.16 (6%)
I hope this helps.

This looks like a durable glaze at cone 6 but not at cone ten.

This is a lot of copper for a functional glaze to have in it. I guess what
I am saying here is - it would be better if the copper were lowered to 2%
if it's for food bearing surfaces. Copper has the reputation of make glazes
more soluble - why not give it the 24 hour vinegar test just to make sure
it will not change colour with use.
