I am looking for suggestions for a dark red, low-fire clay body that is
readily available in the Northeast.
This clay will be used for making slab built and pressmolded forms, with some
thrown elements. It needs to be sturdy as I often assemble many elements to
construct one piece. The clay does not have to contain large grog- but some
smaller grog would be OK to assist with the way I assemble my pieces.
When I lived in Boulder, Colorado I worked with Mile High Ceramics Red Rock
Red clay. It had a lovely deep red color and held up really well for my type
of work. Its too expensive to ship to NY so I am looking for a new clay.
Thanks for your suggestions. You can e-mail me directly or post them on
clayart.

Hi Meg,
I've found Sheffield Pottery Supply in Sheffield, MA to have a good variety
of terra cotta and other clay bodies. If they don't have what you want wet
or dry they'll make clay to your specifications. They are about 30 miles
from the NY border. They also ship. They have a web site with a
downloadable PDF catalog at:

Good Luck,
