Why are you using the slip? If the raku clay you are using is not
white and you are trying to get white with crackles I suggest you add
either tin or zircopax to your glaze mix about 8% should do it.
I use a similar glaze recipe to you
80% High alkaline borosilicate frit and
20% EPK
I put into reduction chamber immediatly, leave for about 20 minutes
and then either dunk into water or old motor oil. Gives me lovely
large crackles and dark crackle lines.

What does the old motor oil do for it.....seems really messy. Should I try it
what effect does it have that is different than water ?

Scientifically I could not tell you what makes the
difference......
The difference besides the very dark crackle lines, is mainly tactile,
the glaze has a smooth satiny feel to it, makes you want to hold the
pot, run your fingers over it. Difficult to explain
