I'll be visiting Chicago in a few weeks. I'd appreciate advice from Windy
City folks about pottery-related places to visit, particularly on the near
north side. tia

The first stop would be LILL STREET POTTERY (not sure of the exact address) 2
blocks north of Fullerton at Sheffield (2400 North about 700 West). Then there
is the POT SHOP and NATIVE SOIL in Evanston. Of course there is always the ART
INSTITUTE or the FIELD MUSEUM or the MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART. and the
ORIENTAL MUSEUM. Then there are the gallaries but I don't know of any that
feature pottery. If I think of any more I'll drop you an e-mail.

Regarding ceramic sights in Chicago:

1. The Art Institute of Chicago on Michigan Ave. has some great pieces. I
was there last week and saw an Oribe ewer that was out of this world.
Check out the Japanese, Korean, Chinese section on the main floor of the
museum and have you socks knocked off.

2. The "River West" area that has galleries... located west of north
Michigan Ave. has work by artists today. The streets are Superior and
enviorens. Pick up a Gallery guide at the first gallery you see and it
will show who is where. You can walk from gallery to gallery and see
quite a bit.

3. It is worth the out of the way drive to the new gallery district
directly west of the 'loop' to see Jun Kaneko's large heads at Klein
Gallery. Klein is on Morgan...again find a map in the Gallery Guide.

Have fun... Katheryn

You might want to call the Midwest Clay Guild in Evanston. They have
about 12 potters there and would probably enjoy giving you a tour. Very
nice people.
