skutt kiln peeling

This talk about ITC reminded me that the lid of my Skutt has been peeling away
slowly but surely. Can I spray ITC on it or will it continue to do this and
fall on the pots?? I really think the lid should be replaced by Skutt but.....
I've
already flipped it and am using the other side but it is doing the same
thing. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks Michelle

I am not sure why your lid is peeling, or what you should do about your
lid, but you might consider using your floor as your lid and vice versa.
We are about to make that switch on some kilns here.

are familliar with but "peeling" of soft brick is a new one to us. Is there
a coating of some sort over the brick? Isao & Don M.

Dear Isao and Don M.
It wasn't originally my post, but Skutt kilns do have a coating on the
inside of thier lids. The coating keeps the bricks from dusting onto
pots, and seems to cut down on the little bits of brick that end up
inside pots on the top shelf.
I was surprised by the original posts implication that Skutt was
unresponsive to the problem. I have found them very helpfull and suggest
that anyone having a problem with a Skutt kiln call thier support
person.
