I think I'll use my delete key with a more fervently when the ITC debates
come through on the list.

Quite frankly, I'll let the parties involved continue to pontificate their
points of view and stake out their own turf. Honestly, I don't care any
more nor do I care to read anything further on the list about it. Its all
so silly. No one is forcing anyone else to use the stuff. If you use it and
it works for you, and you are getting better results from your kiln or what
ever, thats great. If you don't choose to use it and you are satisfied with
the work you kiln does for you, fine. Continue doing it. What is the big
deal here?

I have worked with many types of kilns in as many diffeent situations as
one could imagine. Some kilns are downright trash, others are technical
marvels. I have learned that there are not many problem areas with kilns
that I can't solve with some comman sense, intelligence, and sound
information. I've seen dramatic savings with coatings, I seen dramatic
savings with improved combustion devices and better kiln construction. I've
seen use of oxygen probes and computers save money and time. In fact, I've
seen that in most cases, its not the kiln, its how you use it. Now perhaps
my experience is a bit jaded in that as kilns are a high ticket item and
most potters and pottery businesses I know do the research and build kilns
that have followed sound construction and conbustion practice. Your pottery
business life and health depends on your kiln. In my experience, most
kiln related difficulties can be easily solved

So whats the big deal here? This debate, if it can be called one, is so silly.
Potters work on the fringe of industry and on industrie's coat-tails.
There's a load of information from industry that has huge potential for
studio potters if we were open minded enought to learn from it, maybe even
help us make better pots. We're so caught up in our own little studio
worlds that we don't see the big picture. Hey, I gotta go and get work
done.
