Can anybody recommend a good cone six black slip that is commercially
available, either dry or liquid? Thanks

If you can get Rhodes book, "Clay and Glazes for the Potter", chapter 26 is
called Engobes (he calls slips, engobes). You can get a recipe for all the
firing ranges as well as the degree of moisture in the clay , ie, damp, dry
or bisque. Along with the base recipes are the % of coloring oxides to use.
I'm sure your library will have this book.
I used the ^6 black and I liked it.
