burgundy at ^6

updated sun 19 apr 98

lpskeen on wed 1 apr 98

I know I've saved at least 4 different recipes for burgundy or maroon or
similar colors but the computer has eaten them. :( Would y'all mind
checking your glaze collections and sending me a recipe or two to try?
This would be for ^6 oxidation....

TIA

Here's one Lisa. Thanks for asking, I'm looking forward to copying the
other recipes that people contribute. If you get any sent only to you,
would you please forward them to me? Many thanks.

On B mix 5 this is a nice red.

I'm sure lots of others will catch this too: the chrome should most likely
read
0.15, not 15.

Just a note on this glaze - I am sure the amount of chrome is 1.5 not 15.0.

It is also oversupplied with CaO - as many of this type (high calcium to
support chrome-tin pinks) of glaze are. It may save some future problems to
make sure it is not affected (changes in colour) when in contact with
acidic foods for prolonged periods.

Let me change that - the amount of chrome is probably 0.15 - not 1.5 or 15.0.

The amount is .15 chrome ,it's a beautiful glaze but I've been having
trouble with this glaze from pulling away from the pot (bare spots ) to
falling off the pot. It has been intermittent, Have you had this problem?

thank you

Hi Jon,

No doubt the GB is responsible for the crawling - and maybe the Neph Sy is
a factor as well - I took em both out - here is the glaze with Frit 3124
and G200. If you are using Custer send this back and I will do it again.

RR's version.
-----------------
F3134............... 27.00
G 200 SPAR.......... 3.00
EPK................. 21.50
TALC................ 3.50
WHITING............. 19.00
SILICA.............. 26.00
TIN................. 5.00
chrome ox........... .15
----------
Total 105.15

RATIO 10.29 (original is 10.16)
EXPAN 455.58 (original is 462.7)
WEIGHT 203.57 (original is 205.34)

When you test this Jon - please post the comparison with the original to
the group. Please include my comment about the oversupply of CaO - this
glaze should be tested for durability. Loss of colour under certain
conditions may be a possibility.

By the way - if anyone tries this calculation and finds a significant lack
of MgO showing up in the version with Gerstley borate - you should replace
your analysis of GB with a more accurate one - be glad to pass on the
latest from Hammill and Gillespie.

Ron,
You wrote in your note that you were using Frit 3124, but in the recipe
you wrote 3134. Which is correct? Thanks in advance...
