skutt lid problems

My Skutt lid is cracked through the middle and I just discovered the 2 grip
bands around it have broken welds. Any suggestions?

On kilns where the hose-clamp tighteningbands have broken I get new 3"
diameter hose clamps, open them up, snip them in two pieces, and attach
them using sheet metal screws. I would prefer to use stainless pop
rivets to attach them.

Get and repaired. Take off the lid and set it on a very smooth flat
surface and retighten the bands.
On older kilns I always lubricate the hose clamps with WD-40 before
tightening them.

Thanks for your suggestions, Louis,
I did talk to the Skutt guys while at NCECA and got the straight skinny on
how to tighten those clamps. They said to hold the body of the clamp
firmly --not tightly-- and gently tighten the screws. When I returned, I
discovered that the welds were popped. Decided yesterday to call the
factory and have them send me a new bands.

Still waiting for them to produce a glass-topped kiln. heh

Thanks again,
