newspaper in paperclay

Lately I have tried making paperclay using newspaper, but it doesn't seem to
work very well--cracks a lot while working on it, is hard to fix, and not so
strong. I'm curious whether anyone else has experience comparing newspaper
with other kinds of paper. This clay, by the way, is being used as plastic
clay to build large sculptures.

I often use newsprint/paper to make paperclay, and sometimes
that shredded paper that banks etc. dispose of along the
curbside - no problems with either. I just add it to the clay
while mixing it (Soldner mixer). It dissolves totally into the
clay; not visible, but when chunks of clay are pulled off, can
see fine hairlike fibers of paper protruding. Do you make your
own clay, or are you adding it somehow to prepared clay?

Hi Nikom,

If I were you I'd describe in every detail you can think of the process and
materials and relative amounts you are using. You haven't given enough
information to discern your problem. I make clay from newspaper and it
works great. Give enough information and people can help you.

Good luck, Eleanora
