Hi Folks:
I used the following glaze on white stoneware, cone 6,
oxidation and got large areas on the pot that the glaze did
not stick to, it just left the area bare, with a slight
gloss, no color. Will someone please tell me what is wrong.
10.5 gert borate
25.0 neph syn
36.5 flint
18.5 whiting
9.5 EPK
7.5 tin ox.
..325 chrome ox.
Thanks

Hello. I don't know if your skipping problem is because of the glaze formula,
but whenever this has happened to me it has been a glaze application problem..
I have had skipping in three situations. First, if the glaze is applied too
thickly, this will happen on the outside of a piece especially the outside of
a bowl. Second, if the glaze is not completely dry when I fire it. And
third, if the pot absorbs too much water while glazing it, such as if glaze is
poured into the inside of the pot then the outside is glazed too soon
afterwards and the area glazed second does not absorb enough glaze. This
third thing seems to happen more with white clay bodies. I hope this helps,
good luck taming that glaze.

Do you wash your pots before glazing? I used to have this problem with
errant dust on the pieces that repelled the glaze. Now I wash
everything, let dry overnight and then glaze. I almost never have this
problem anymore.
